Zube Sultana

EP - Fall Dew

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Fall Dew' @ 'CD quality'

'Fall Dew' is a five track EP by Banbury musical experimentalist Zube Sultana; a weirdly exotic mixture of twisted instrumentation and contorted voices (un)sensibly colliding to form an 'eclectic' of sounds and styles from across the electric ages. A little bit manic, a little bit mad, a little bit zany and a little bit off-its-head but, also a little bit interesting methinks!

Sultana's influences have been many and varied but seem to have their roots firmly in the 60's and 70's, that time of early musical experimentation that evolved into much of what we have and hear now - a collective of the good, the bad and the indifferent, nothing totally new, more kinda variations on themes really. And so it is that Zube Sultana took up the challenge and did his own peculiar but quite absorbing take on the whole fusion thing! 'Fall Dew' is the end result, 'Fall Dew' is his fusion, his vision, his creation.

Now, this aint yer every-day, run-of-the-mill indie music! Oh no, what Sultana is doing is quite off-the-wall, perhaps to the point of being somewhat self-indulgent actually. But, I can hear where he's coming from! And, I've discovered that it's just no good playing 'Fall Dew' at normal, acceptable db levels. Oh no, turn this baby up or you'll miss so much of the subtleties and nuances, this needs to be loud and proud! Now, once you've got you're levels sorted, sit back and listen and listen well - Zube Sultana has indeed taken many of those early influences (actually from before his time!) and re-modelled and re-shaped those ideas, those sounds, those dynamics and made them into something totally new, unusual maybe but certainly new!

'Fall Dew' by Zube Sultana isn't in any way a commercial work; this is one for the experimentalist, the ardent follower of the musically un-fashionable. 'Fall Dew' is, at times, excruciatingly lo-fi but at others all crisp and spry - it's a real hotch-potch of sound that runs the whole gamut of musical sensibilities from absolute harmony through to something approaching total discord. But, somehow Sultana has made it happen, made it work! It shouldn't work of course, it just shouldn't! It does, it's weird, unusual, pretty bonkers at times but Sultana has somehow captured, crafted and created something very strange but very pleasurable. 'Fall Dew' needs a few plays before it opens itself up and you start to get the bigger picture but, if you can let it happen, it will! Very clever this, not to everyone's taste that's for sure but, if you're always craving for something different then 'Fall Dew' by Zube Sultana could be just the tonic you need - weird but in a very pleasant and rewarding way!
