Single - Dreams

A new name and a new voice! Zeya brings her magical musical world to you in the form of this debut single, 'Dreams'; a work that's more pop than folk, more rock than R&B - gentle but persuasive, lively yet evocative.

Aimed squarely at the air-waves this radio friendly song and its two 'brothers-in-musical-arms' by newcomer Zeya has the potential to at least bring her name to the fore. The song itself is punchy and extremely likeable but may just miss the commercial mark by a point or two simply because there aint really much out there to compare it with at the moment. Zeya has a power and energy that's well suited to the commercial marketplace and her delivery is bright, clear and nicely memorable.

For me though, 'Dreams' just lacks a touch of real compositional maturity; although beautifully recorded and well assembled with enhancing 'orchestration' there's just a touch of naivety in the writing that might need to be addressed some time soon. Sure, Zeya writes well enough but there's something in the meter that I find a little grating - a bit too precisely 'English'. Too many words, at times just too precise, not enough space for the words maybe - clinical, yes, that's the word I was looking for; just a bit too clinical maybe!! Perhaps the words should be précised somewhat, less could well be more here!

Criticism over - Zeya's subtle tones are certainly on the money; she sings as if from the heart and she definitely seems to have the natural talent to make her music count. With great looks and great musical 'gifts', the future surely will be kind to this expressive and vibrant talent. Here she adds 'Walls' and 'Sticks' to bolster the 'A' side work - two similarly rich songs that further strengthen my belief that Zeya has what it takes to break through.

'Dreams' by Zeya is a well handled debut that should win many hearts and souls. As I re-visit the song whilst writing I can feel the song getting further and further under my skin - a grower then!! Zeya has a very commercial voice and I can see her slowly but surely inching her way into the public eye with her ebullient and friendly style. 'Dreams', for me, is a good single if not actually great - certainly a talent to watch out for, Zeya's definitely got something richly rewarding about her and should do just fine!
