Mixing several genre elements into their studious, mature rocking melee Zalinski set out their stall in fine fashion; this outfit have a habit, a very pleasant habit it has to be said, of creepin' up on you slowly then simply exploding into musical space. Light and shade is what I'm getting at, Zalinski have a knack of just getting you settled into a chilled verse or three, nicely into the vibe then, POW, as all kinds of shit happens. Now , that's nice shit I should add; Zalinski have an inherent energy and spark that often lies hidden behind beautifully poised and well crafted composition and mixing. Then they let loose and blast you into another kingdom altogether - hey, it works bloody well cuz you're never quite sure what's coming up next or even when or if it'll all kick off or not (it makes sense to me so I'm not gonna change it!!).
Yes, Zalinski build their expansive and expressive music on the solid foundations provided by excellent songwriting. Then, their arrangements are superb and allow every component part to be accessed and heard with great clarity and offering maximum impact. As musicians Zalinski are quite obvious seriously blessed and their unity is near tangible as they combine to deliver their seriously brilliant songs with sensitivity, vitality and splendid energy. In just four short but very sweet songs Zalinski have surprised me and pretty-much blown me away. If the rest of their songbook is this bloody good then Zalinski are serious contenders. So, as a demo this is faultless; it's extremely well assembled and clearly shows what a great outfit Zalinski are. Job done then!! Seriously, Zalinski couldn't have done much better than this - this four track demo tells any listener just about everything they need to know about this exciting band. Massively professional and extremely tantalising, 'This Too, Shall Pass', as a demo work or as a mouth-whetter for the new album is an exceptional piece of work! Great band, great demo - watch out for Zalinski, they could and should be on the move!!
