Play 90 second soundbite of 'Wake Up' @ 'CD quality'
As the album progressed my early feeling didn't change one iota; 'Wired Daisies' is nothing short of brilliant! Classy rock - from solid, ballsy rock right down to gentle balladic, bordering on anthemic, rock. Loads of great songs stacked full of pure magic that just carried on coming, one after the other and never anything short of amazing. Inspired, evocative and often emotionally charged, Wire Daisies do their combined thing with total controlled professionalism and attention to detail. Their songs are maturely written, superbly arranged and beautifully performed. The recording is sympathetic to Wire Daisies' cause - all the i's dotted and the t's crossed, nothing left to chance but similarly never over-produced. Sensational stuff this!
Wire Daisies are Treana Morris (vocals), Ol Beach (keyboards), Alden Evans (guitar) and Steve Jackson (drums) and by God are they good - individually and in their creative entirety. Morris has one of those, to die for, voices which she uses to its maximum potential. She can be slick and sensual or gritty and hard edged but always absolutely spot on. Behind Morris the band combine with empathetic instrumental clarity and keep everything totally tight and refreshingly vibrant. Nothing is allowed to get in the way of those fantastic vocals, nothing, never! Even when Wire Daises go almost nu-punk on 'Time Will Tell', there's no let up on quality and control.
'Wire Daisies' is a stunning album - Wire Daises show that superlative British rock music is safe for a while yet. Brilliant, brilliant, oh, and in case you didn't understand, brilliant!
