Play 90 second soundbite of 'Sleep In Space' @ 'CD quality'
Their use of soft, intricate drumming and smooth, jazzy bass compliments the subtle guitar and keyboard work. Vocally there's also a very laid back feel here. The songs have an lovely naive nursery rhyme quality about them as the harmonies weave in and around the tapestry of instrumental work.
Unit's work came as a bit of a shock initially simply because I've not come across many bands travelling down this road lately. I like what I hear and I like it more with every play. Different - which for me is a plus! Melodic - always a bonus! Interesting - keeps the listener guessing! Unit seem to be on a different planet to most modern bands - hey, that's absolutely fine by me. It's always a joy for me when I come across something that makes me stop, listen and really think about what I'm hearing. Just for that I find Unit fresh and exciting. One criticism as far as I'm concerned - too few tracks here - I could listen for hours. But, after all, this is just a demo so I guess I'll live with it. But, if Unit put together an album of this fine work I'd like to be at the front of the queue for a copy.
