Under The Thumb

Demo

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Ladies Man' @ 'CD quality'

This demo was entered into the 2008 Toxic Pete / ffg Studios Studio Time Competition

Under The Thumb are a four-piece funk outfit based in and around Kent. This demo comprises two tracks, 'Ladies Man' and 'Luigi' - just two short but pretty sweet, energetic offerings showcasing the funkability of this well appointed and tasty sounding band.

The two tracks have a great 'live' feel to them - very honest, very what you hear is what you're gonna get - and certainly quite impressive. Under The Thumb play solidly as a unit; they're driven ever-onward by some phatt, rich bass lines and incessant percussive work, with the guitar sitting tidily within the funky framework and punctuating the vocal quite superbly. The vocals are frenetic but never rushed and typify the band's adrenalin charged pace and effervescent, energetic delivery.

Both tracks featured here are decent enough little workers - both allow the individuals to sparkle and yet both provide a feeling of unity and togetherness. The live rawness and free-form feel suggests that Under The Thumb are a pretty wild and raunchy bunch in the live scenario. But, with just two tracks to sample it's quite difficult to be more specific about Under The Thumb - suffice to say that there's definitely a buzz goin' on here and I get the feeling that the guys really enjoy themselves as they funk about.

Under The Thumb have chosen not to go straight down the well trodden indie road - their funky option, although not necessarily everyone's taste, should give them an edge over many of their contemporaries - at least they've got focus whereas so many 'indie' bands just seem to ride the overcrowded train to banalsville. Under The Thumb's funky attitude and boisterous, bubbly feel should win them loads of friends wherever they play and I'm damn sure that Under The Thumb are a difficult band to sit still to! Funkin' good stuff!
