Play 90 second soundbite of 'Tell Me' @ 'CD quality'
'Sunny Estate EP' is a bit of an enigma in some ways; each and every track is stunning yet each presents a different facet of this four piece unit. 'Tell Me' kicks off in roaring indie rock stylee with more than a hint of commerciality. The track is driven by an incessant and solid rhythm section which is overlaced with sensible guitars and impressive vocals. The cool opener makes way for the even cooler 'Watching And Waiting'; once again bass and drums do a brilliant job in pushing this song forward. Melodic and catchy it draws the listener in. 'Is This Love' absolutely rocks; pacey and punchy with great bass riffs it's sure to get the feet going.
Then, just when you think you've got Underdog sussed as another indie rock outfit they come in with an excellent acoustic number, 'Time After Time'. Suddenly Underdog show their subtle side with a sort of modern classic. It's a great track and says much about the guys and their abilities. Next, more shock/horror (in the nicest possible way!) with 'Second (The Anomalies Remix)' and I bet you weren't expecting this!! Bordering on electro/dance and hip-hop this track, more than any other, shows the diversity of Underdog. Shock/horror but wow, what an unexpected way to end an impressive and tantalizing EP.
'Sunny Estate EP' from Underdog is different enough to stand these guys apart from many of their contemporaries. The whole thing is well crafted with great attention to detail. A clever and absorbing release.
