"Uber Dramm are an Anglo Flemish psychedelic experimental band...", so the press pack tells. Me, I think that's absolutely true. But, I think I already know the identity of both the Anglo and the Flemish experimentalists - I believe they are a couple of people that I've admired very much over the last few years under a different name. If I'm right, with 'Uber Dramm' they've exceeded my already high expectations of them - of course, if I'm wrong then Uber Dramm are doin' just fine in their own right!

Whatever, Uber Dramm do the kind of psychedelic experimentation that has its seeds back in the late 60's and early 70's. Hey, that's fine by me - that's my era! I cut my teeth (well maybe not!) on such music - I loved its excesses then and I still crave for the same thing even today. So, it'll come as no surprise to find out that I very much like what Uber Dramm are doing and I wish a few more artists / bands would take a proverbial 'leaf' and run with it! Much great music and many great bands grew from the earlier movement and I'm sure there's still a market out there for similar experimentation and innovation today.

So, what about this eponymously titled four track album then? Well, I love it actually - surprise, surprise!! Uber Dramm lay down some fine old grooves here, ok they're pretty long grooves but that's fine, that's what tends to happen when you push the barriers and experiment with sound, dynamics and mood. 'Apathetic Bluesman' opens this gloriously weird offering. It's a good opener but it's pretty safe as it doesn't expand the envelope too much. Far better for me is 'Unexpected Plans' - great stuff this - loads to get off on and get carried away with - I love it! The relatively gentle but haunting 'Ekeren Wind' is a bit of early Hawkwind-esque soft rock that's damn tasty. 'Seance In A Shed' closes things out with a really eerie vibe - fitting, considering the title I suppose! Supposedly recorded live during an actual seance in someone's shed, it takes me back to the very early Tangerine Dream experimental era. Haunting organ and spooky percussion vie with electronic 'wind' and weird whisperings to generate a pretty cool work that Terry Riley would have been proud of - superb stuff this, scary, hypnotic - the stuff of nightmares!! Anglo / Flemish or man on the moon or blah, blah, blah, who cares? - Uber Dramm are my kind of people and they make my kind of noise!

'Uber Dramm' by Uber Dramm is a nicely lo-fi recording which actually works very well with the whole spacey feel of things. 'Uber Dramm' makes a really pleasant change at a time when so much music is predictable and aimed at the musically ignorant. Nice one indeed!!
