Play 90 second soundbite of 'Burn Baby Burn' @ 'CD quality'
Welsh music maestro Marshall writes very much in the same sort of 'ball-park' as Crowded House - nicely easy, syncopated, semi-acoustic pop songs with a certain timeless feel, aimed squarely at the 'pop' market-place but containing hidden depth and musical maturity .
'Burn Baby Burn' is a commercially worthy offering that's got plenty goin' on and plenty going for it; with hooks by the score and a great radio-friendly singalongability it should pull in the punters by the truck-load. There's not a lot to dislike here but certainly plenty to admire and enjoy; 'Burn Baby Burn' may not be the most original song title ever dreamed up but what this single lacks in nomenclature originality it more than make up for in style, creativity and panache. At times 'Burn Baby Burn' borders on 60's retro and yet feels very 'now' and viable - it's a real slow grower that starts to open up and come to you after a couple of plays - very nice!!
'Burn Baby Burn' is accompanied here by the beautifully grooved 'Ocean'; for me this is the better song of the two but because it's possibly less poppy and therefore less commercial, it sits in its rightful place as the 'B' side. No retro tendencies here, just a nicely chilled, smooth vibe with nu-jazz leanings. The two tracks here from Tyrone Marshall suggest Wales has got itself a new 'star' in the making; Tyrone Marshall clearly writes quality songs and his delivery of those songs is, equally clearly, professional and definitely on-the-money.
'Burn Baby Burn' by Tyrone Marshall should sell well for this polished and proficient singer/songwriter from Wales - maybe not a massive 'smash' hit but definitely one that should be heard by the masses and deserves to be out there and vying for famedom!
