Play 90 second soundbite of 'They' @ 'CD quality'
Hey, think Ray Lamontagne meets Damien Rice and you'll start to get somewhere close the wonderful exciting sound of Trent Gentry!
Beautifully honest songs are lovingly ground out with Gentry's husky, breathy vocals sitting atop a richly attired but sparsely instrumented backdrop. It's really just Gentry and a few good friends - nothing pretentious, nothing over-reached. And, I have to say, Gentry makes it work wonderfully; the minimalist accompaniment allows the Gentry voice to take its rightful place up-front and that little fact brings the singer closer to the listener - you almost feel as though the guy's in the room with you!! It's a very 'real' album and Gentry has a lovely way of drawing you in so that you feel part of his world - and, it's a warm cosy place to be and it made me feel relaxed, refreshed and wonderfully fulfilled - if I can be at 'home' inside this work I'm sure you can be too!
Having said earlier that 'Stars' is sparsely instrumentally populated, Gentry's arrangements are deceptively bold and beautifully structured; everything's just right, just so, just...excellent! Lyrically Gentry covers many topics and tells it like he sees it - he's believable and extremely easy on the ear; often morose, regularly haunting, always mellow, Gentry often makes the hairs on yer arms stand up with his passion and performance. Vocally Trent sounds older than his relatively tender years and certainly his writing tells a tale of a very experienced and observant individual. 'Stars' by Trent Gentry is a real grower that begs to be replayed. So, just keep pressing 'play' a few times and let Trent Gentry get inside of you with his wispy musical way - 'Stars' is an excellent debut album that suggests even bigger things will come from this talented singer songwriter. 'Stars' by Trent Gentry is up there with the big boys' works - it shows massive talent and demonstrates fantastic potential - 'Stars' by Trent Gentry is irritatingly intoxicating; it gets under yer skin and scratches away until you have no option but to listen again...and again..and...! Fantastic work from a new 'star' of the acoustic music world!
