Tokyo Jo

Demo

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Passer-by' @ 'CD quality'

Based in Kent, Tokyo Jo have laid down a nifty little seven tracks here showcasing their own brand of funk edged indie that owes much to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. No they've not ripped anything off, the Peppers are just obviously very influential with this tidy sounding band. Anyway, if yer gonna choose any band to emulate you might as well choose the best!

With robust, bass driven riffs Tokyo Jo storm through this impressive collection of works. The material is pretty impressive as is the playing. Their genre of choice will appeal to a wider audience than many young bands out there; I can easily envisage a lively, youth filled mosh pit bouncing around to these guys just as I can see the +30's struttin' their stuff. The whole thing really does belt along apace with punchy vibes.

This excellent demo hasn't been too over-produced which actually works extremely well resulting in a very 'live' feel which works bloody well and presumably hints at Tokyo Jo's stage work. The bassy rhythms are driven flat out by rigidly paced drum work and the whole is wrapped around with some equally frantic, funky yet soulful guitar work. Vocally they've pretty much nailed it too; similarly sympathetically funky and well controlled - although I don't know how the hell he manages to keep up the pace and survive - must have bloody big lungs!

Tokyo Jo have obviously worked very hard to hone their style and sound and it shows with this awesomely energetic outing. Certainly I can see these babes kickin' up a real storm with their live work - it must be quite an experience (as is this demo)!
