Play 90 second soundbite of 'Round Tripping' @ 'CD quality'
Timeless music but also timely delivered, 'The Gladstone Cassettes Vol.1' is a stylish and welcome change from the 'popular' norm we are now so used to hearing on a daily basis.
Wonderfully 'real' and near tangible, 'The Gladstone Cassettes Vol.1' is a beautifully laid back album of 'roots' music with a modern twist; recorded and produced with a feel of expressive musical freedom and good-old instrumental honesty, 'The Gladstone Cassettes Vol.1' is a rich and sensitive work unlike anything else I've come across lately. I have to say it's 'right up my street'; the fusion works superbly and this six-piece 'orchestra' make a beautiful 'noise' and generate a great atmosphere. Listening to this outfit makes me want to go and sit in a big field, partake of some liquid refreshment, lie back and just take in nature, the sun and the stars!
It's a little weird but rather pleasurable, in this day and age of electric this, distorted that and electro everything, to find something that's able to re-create a sense of 'the summer of love' and deliver an uplifting and yet relaxed vibe but, The Moon Music Orchestra absolutely nail it!! 'The Gladstone Cassettes Vol.1' is warm, cheery and more than a little enlightening. The 'orchestra' seem to go to great lengths to maintain 'the chill' here; this is a non-aggressive, no-axe-to-grind work that's an absolute pleasure to behold. Ok, The Moon Music Orchestra may not be to everyone's liking and others may take a little convincing but, here we have a great outfit playing wonderfully fluid and very satisfying music. These 'guys' know their 'roots' and through great musicianship and mature song writing they've contrived to come up with a marvellously 'easy' album that turns the clock back whilst looking forward into the future. I love what The Moon Music Orchestra are about and I adore what they're doing.
There are no prima donnas in The Moon Music Orchestra, the whole feel is one of a 'family that play together' to make sweet honest music with a difference. Simple, sweet and quite understated, 'The Gladstone Cassettes Vol.1' takes music-making back to 'basics' by keeping it all grounded and relying only on all-round musical ability rather than modern-day digital enhancement to create their signature sound. 'The Gladstone Cassettes Vol.1' by The Moon Music Orchestra is indeed sufficiently different yet fascinatingly familiar; a beautifully addressed folkish work that'll please many, surprise a few and absolutely stun anyone even half interested in 'roots fusion' music.
