Play 90 second soundbite of 'Lazerslab' @ 'CD quality'
tKatKa, according to their biog, specialise is writing and producing music suitable for movie soundtracks and short art films ("soundtrack techno"). And certainly I can see this piece working nicely for them in the A/V marketplace. It rolls out softly and evenly with a distinctly subdued feel. There's no big crescendo's here and no big hooks - tKatKa keep it rich but low key and inoffensive. 'B' side 'E.L.D.A.C.' further confirms tKatKa's affinity for the soundtrack world; cool, almost sleepy it has a slightly hypnotic groove going on. Although released as a 'single' I see this more as a work-horse demo that should be distributed to 'art houses', short film production companies and animation studios.
'Lazerslab' demonstrates tKatKa's arty flair but suggests that PJ Norman and Carlsson are really in this to enjoy their joint 'underground', experimental penchant. tkatka don't really fit into the techno/dance world; theirs is a world of smoothly pulsating soundscapes, of electronic composition and experimental studio essays.
