Tiny Spark

EP - Alska

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Alaska' @ 'CD quality'

It's always important, if you want to achieve success in the music industry, to develop a sound and/or style all of your own. That's what five-piece indie, pop, rockers, Tiny Spark, have done and that's what's gonna help set them apart. And that's what's gonna lift them above most of the opposition!

Although there are just three excellent songs on this EP, I already feel that I know these guys. If you could compartmentalise bands based on style and sound rather than actual genre then Tiny Spark would be seated with bands like Snow Patrol and Keane. Tiny Spark aren't actually like either but they just happen to make the same sort of big, very classy, commercial 'noise'. Each track here is distinctive and extremely saleable in its own right. There's an overall sound that's bordering on epic anthemic. It's a big sound, a polished and well executed sound and, a really memorable sound. There's something quite theatrical and majestic about Tiny Spark's work; it's a fantastic combination of all that's good about British pop-rock music.

Like Keane, Tiny Spark fill practically all the available 'space' within a song with rich, almost orchestral, sound and like Snow Patrol, Tiny Spark fill the rest of the space with solid rock riffs and fills. The end result is absolutely perfect; Tiny Spark have something that's instantly recognisable, memorable and, without doubt, commercial. Any one of the tracks here, 'Alaska', 'Go On' and 'Never Met That Girl' could have been chosen as the lead and title song, such is the strength of writing. Three tracks isn't a lot to judge a band on but, with Tiny Spark, I feel that it's actually more that ample, such is their effect and such is their musical charisma. I'd really like to hear a full-blown album from this superb band but I get the feeling that whatever they 'dished out', would all be to this exceptional standard.

'Alaska' by Tiny Spark is nothing short of excellent; three amazing commercial tracks handled with supreme professionalism from conception to completion. Tiny Spark sound like a band with a massive future ahead of them; if they can keep coming up with songs of this strength and quality I can see nothing but fame and fortune coming their way. Of course they'll need a touch of luck but they've sure got everything else they need to be absolutely massive. Stunning stuff this from a brilliant outfit.
