Play 90 second soundbite of 'Put Your Slippers On' @ 'CD quality'
This promo EP of four t'riffic 'songs' slots nicely into those descriptive 'slots'...and some! Sigur Ros took an absolute age to become a 'name' in the High Street and to reap the rewards for their years of hard graft within this genre - perhaps this crew, the Tim And Sam's..., will benefit from the success and tenacity of Sigur Ros and also start to see their work in the higher echelons of the 'charts' - certainly, this promo work indicates that they've got everything in place and they sound ready and up for it!
Multi-instrumentalists, the Tim And Sam's seem to be essentially a four piece outfit that call on the help of 'friends' as and when needed. Their delightfully refreshing sonic ventures, as given here, could be described as soundscapes or aural tapestries. Certainly, these 'songs', and I use the term loosely, cuz more correctly, these instrumental renderings, are wonderfully constructed, gentle and sensual works of fluid and organic 'scores' or mini-symphonies. Post-rock maybe but, there's nothing at all stark, angular or obtuse about 'Put Your Slippers On', 'Join The Dots', 'Stepping Stones' or 'The Badger Set'. Nope, what's offered here is gently lilting, softly flowing, cosseting and definitely easy on the ear.
Information is pretty sketchy about Tim And Sam's Tim And The Sam Band With Tim And Sam other than Tim seems to play a major role in the 'orchestra', there doesn't appear to be a Sam at all and the line-up is flexible and transient. That's fine, who's who, what's what, why and how are all pretty irrelevant cuz 'Put Your Slippers On' is a beautiful piece of contemporary music however it was conceived and executed. 'Put Your Slippers On' keeps its feet squarely rooted in melodic-acoustic-soft-rock. Never once does it drift off into pretentious experimentation or prima donna showboating, rather staying firmly in the accessible, understandable and believable bounds of modern music making. It's generally quite a sombre outing but it somehow gives off good vibes and even manages to feel up-lifting for all its mournful and haunting overtures.
'Put Your Slippers On' by Tim And Sam's Tim And The Sam Band... is a classy and very well structured EP of excellent modernistic music for the heart, mind and soul. As a promotional work this is pretty faultless although perhaps a few vocals wouldn't've gone amiss just to demonstrate another facet of this incredibly talented sounding outfit. One to watch out for I'm convinced!! Fantastic promo this from a very gifted and exceptionally talented bunch of youngsters - brilliant, nice work!!
