Play 90 second soundbite of 'Memory Fat' @ 'CD quality'
I recently reviewed the single, 'Not The Motorcycle Diaries' from these guys and I was totally knocked out by what I heard. Now, with the release of their album 'Chap With Wings, Five Rounds Rapid', Thumpermonkey have strengthened my belief in them; this is a stunning piece of work. It's zany, it's innovative, it's addictive, a splendid outing of utter madness and controlled musical mayhem. Mayhem in the best possible way, mayhem in so far as you've no idea what's coming next until it smashes itself into you. Hey, don't be put off if my words sound a bit of a 'bridge too far' - Thumpermonkey are special, of that I have no doubt.
Thumpermonkey sound like a five piece (or more!) but are actually just a trio - yes, just three talented and adventurous musicians that've come together (lucky for us!!) to provide something fresh, if a little challenging. A genuine mind-f**k of aural pleasure, sensual stimulation and pleasure overload.
'Chap With Wings, Five Rounds Rapid' cannot be described by words alone. This is something that you simply have to experience for yourself. This musical package is as varied as a giant box of Liquorice All Sorts, as tasty as Dairy Milk, as hot as a jar of Jalapeno's, as smooth as fresh cream - a pure musical feast of goodies to fill up on. Love it (and I do!) or hate it (and many will!), you have to see the pure audacity of this work, of these guys. Zappa vies with Beefheart vies with System Of A Down vies with, well you name it really.
Thumpermonkey prove, without doubt, that real music lives on! Just one criticism though, only just over thirty minutes guys - what's all that about? More, much more please. Stunning!!!
