Play 90 second soundbite of 'The Fall' @ 'CD quality'
The whole thing has been solidly 'nailed' - as the silky folk-esque and smooth, rock biased voices meet there's a beautifully full-bodied warm and crisp feel generated. Both singularly and in harmony, the 'voices' bring a cool and smooth edge to some pretty solid and impressive playing. The genre-melding songs, there's four here, have been written and crafted to a very high standard; the playing is precise and varied and the arrangements are superb with acoustic guitars meeting their electric cousins to evolve with a freshness that sits perfectly within the structure of the songs.
Based loosely in England's mid-east The Yearning, a five piece, have found themselves a very fresh sound that simultaneously attacks and eases the senses. The initial feel is one of gentle, melodic rock but there's plenty of guts hidden in there to raise the roof and ample subtlety to relax to.
The 'Afterthought EP' is sleek, massively appealing, and somehow fascinating. The Yearning's approach is considered and deliberate. They've been clever with their musical wares and the end product is an infectious and very, very tasty piece of work.
