Play 90 second soundbite of 'Save Me Sinner' @ 'CD quality'
As this London based five piece tear into 'Save Me Sinner, I am reminded of a raunchy Blondie. Guitar driven, this pretty formidable 'chune' rocks with a slight nu-punk feel. But, punk it certainly isn't. Rock it most definitely is! Vocalist Kelly B impressively keeps her head above water as the big rockin' rhythms roll out behind her with the twin guitars, bass and drums woven snugly together to form a pretty massive and solid backdrop - the result being melodic rock with a good commercial feel.
'Bulletproof' is much more chilled. It's a solidly built rock ballad with a great feel. I could see this working brilliantly as a live anthem; I can almost see the masses of raised arms and lighters waving through the air as They Drove Me To It take time out from full-on rock to bring themselves and their followers back down to earth. An impressive piece of work this.
At first I wasn't too sure whether these two songs were just too far apart to really work; maybe they needed a third track, some sort of 'half-way house' or middle-ground to offer a smooth transition between chunky pop/rock and emotional ballad. But, after several plays I've been totally won over - they do work - they do compliment each other - and they are just fine together.
They Drove Me To It show in no uncertain terms that they can write and perform to a very high standard. This double 'A' side release will, I feel, encourage more to their fold. 'Save Me Sinner/Bulletproof' goes a long way to showing the potential of this impressive outfit.
