Play 90 second soundbite of 'Indier Than Thou' @ 'CD quality'
Reminiscent of punk poet John Otway in the way they go about their observational and critical appraisal of the world around them, The United Kingdom Of America relish the fact that they manages to upset people as well as perhaps educate them with a new perspective on life. Having said that, if this single is typical, The United Kingdom Of America have a pleasantly likeable quality to them. They manage to get their message across clearly and concisely through well with this crafted and nicely proportioned release.
The United Kingdom Of America prove with 'Indier Than Thou' that punk isn't dead. They put a fresh zest into their work which is likeable and easy to take. Sure, they have things to get off their chests, but so have we all. The United Kingdom Of America do it with a touch of style and finesse; theirs may be attitudinal punk but it's clever and quite quaint. I'm sure they won't like that last statement but 'quaint' is meant in a complimentary way - again, just as Otway's music was, and indeed still is, quaint and accessible, so is The United Kingdom Of America's!
'Indier Than Thou' is smashin' little 'chune' and it's good to hear bands of this ilk getting their message across with controlled angst and true conviction. Nice one guys!
