The Tyler Trudeau Attempt

EP - In My Despair, I Took Up Painting

Play 90 second soundbite of 'We're An UnAmerican Band' @ 'CD quality'

The Tyler Trudeau Attempt are a power-pop ensemble from New Haven, Connecticut; the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter Tyler Trudeau, this outfit blast out unadulterated, blatant hooky pop with all the aggression of a full-blown punk band but with a steady eye on modern musicality.

'In My Despair, I Took Up Painting' is a five track work that takes a honestly appraising look at the trials and tribulations of ones youthful years; lyrics that are meaningful and unapologetic set against a sort of low-fi but complimentary backdrop that's enthusiastic, a touch retro and empathetically raw. Power-pop, pure-pop, pop-punk - it matters not what genre or sub-genre signpost points to the songs of The Tyler Trudeau Attempt coz these guys are simply in-yer-face popsters with musical messages for the young and impressionable masses. Their style is brash, naive (in the nicest possible way!) and youthfully melodic but tantalisingly teasing - 'In My Despair, I Took Up Painting' has a beautifully genuine feel about it; the songs are catchy and quite compelling - I think Trudeau writes and sings from the heart and shows that he (and the collective Attempt) really 'feel' the passion and the sentiment of their work.

Quite whether 'In My Despair, I Took Up Painting' by The Tyler Trudeau Attempt will throw this outfit into the world spotlight I'm not really sure. But, given good promotion and some enthusiastic radio-time I can see these guys generating a great deal of interest. Their forceful energy and rhythmic drive is transparent enough and the guys certainly work together extremely well - they all seem to be 'singing from the same hymn-sheet' and their solidarity and commitment seems total. But, is the music world really ready for The Tyler Trudeau Attempt? Well, despite what they seem to be singing about on the excellent 'We're An UnAmerican Band', I'm sure that over in the States there'll be a pretty wide appreciation of this band and their work. Elsewhere, I just feel that The Tyler Trudeau Attempt may not quite get the recognition they deserve at the moment. 'In My Despair, I Took Up Painting' by America's The Tyler Trudeau Attempt is a gritty, honest piece of work that should be well received by the 'teen-youth' of their Nation and possibly some of the Eastern European countries but might struggle 'across the pond' in musically fickle Britain.
