Play 90 second soundbite of 'Be Love' @ 'CD quality'
The Trews reliance on classic rock signatures doesn't mean they're a retro outfit; The Trews put new energy and fresh attitude into the form and knock out their contagious rock with near tangible belief and complete disregard for staid rock'n'roll boundaries. The Trews solid and unified sound is something that straight away hits you full in the face - The Trews near anthemic songs are wonderfully intoxicating, massively singalongable and fantastically hooky. Sensitively arranged keys sit comfortably side by side with the soaring, punctuative guitars and together this 'front-line' builds from the hefty foundations laid down by the 'back-line' of explosive drums and pounding bass. The main vocals are individualistic and extremely likeable with not so much vibrato, more a 'warble' that gives The Trews their 'key' distinction. The voices are wonderfully weighted and crystal clear which in itself is unusual for rock outfits of this ilk.
'No Time For Later' doesn't just sit and languish in rock'n'roll normality; it's artistic and expansive, there's plenty of variation and oodles of light and shade mixed in with the more obvious but tantalisingly gritty melee. The Trews rock is elegant, mature and blisteringly infectious. Their sharp, modern edge brings rock back to life and yet their recourse to the well tried and tested is similarly inspired - The Trews mix it up wonderfully and make 'No Time For Later' a must-hear and hopefully a must-have album.
I like what The Trews are doing with electric rock'n'roll music; They've found new ways to broaden the heavy rock idiom without totally selling out to commercial requirements. Oh, sure 'No Time For Later' is still commercially viable - generally the tracks are extremely radio-friendly and really come to life when given max db's - great driving music, perfect for those long lonely journeys when you want something to enjoy, join in with and keep you from falling asleep at the wheel. There aint no way you'll nod off if The Trews are on yer deck and that's the truth!! Bloody great album from a fantastic outfit - excellent!!
