Play 90 second soundbite of 'Drop Me Off In Rotherham' @ 'CD quality'
Vocally distinctive and instrumentally refined The Tivoli pour out a sort of musical cross-over that hints at so many genre but sits smack in the middle of home grown gutsy pop. As I listen I can hear working class poetry al la Adrian Henri, Roger McGough and Billy Bragg set a mature and precise musical backdrop. Easy on the ear and beautifully crafted 'Drop Me Off In Rotherham' shows that us Brits don't have to totally conform to head-bangin' rock, melancholy folk or pre-meditated pop banality. The Tivoli manage to pull off something different here; a heart-felt, passionate piece of lyricism set to equally emotional music - hey, it works!! We Brits can still do it!!
It's hard to comment to any depth on a band when all you've got to go on is one track. But, in this case that one track says much about this six piece Rotherham eclectic - 'proper' song writing is alive and well, in Rotherham at least. And, The Tivoli sound like an act that might just make a difference!!
