The Tempus

EP - Follow You

Hey, nice work you Tempus guys!! 'Follow You' is a really raunchy, raucous EP from Bradford powerhouse trio The Tempus. Sitting just on the rockin' side of the modernistic indie fence, The Tempus write extremely well and their execution of their songs is quite awesome!

Offering rock-sided indie, The Tempus make one helluva big noise between the three of 'em! For me, the more rocky songs get the bigger nod cuz it's there that The Tempus make the biggest and strongest initial impact. Their more indie biased songs are still bloody good mind you but, indie's indie and The Tempus shouldn't be too tempted to run with the hounds as well as the hares - rock make The Tempus feel big and worthy, the indie route may just leave them in a musical no-man's land with the millions of bands doing very much the same.

Apart from guitar, bass and drums The Tempus offer three voices which is a bonus in itself; to have the potential to fill space and voids with 'voices' is always cool and The Tempus should use that 'tool', that extra dynamic, as much as possible within the restrictions of the songs and their 'feel'. Yes, I like The Tempus; although I think they're better on the more rock-sided songs I don't think they should be trying to out-rock the real heavies - The Tempus should stay well within their three-man capabilities in order to keep it all real.

So, 'Follow You' is five really impressive tracks of Tempus triumph! The Tempus seem to have a knack of writing songs with real punch, with great hooks, with that certain 'extra' that's often elusive. The Tempus rock that's for sure but it aint all heavy-monster stuff, oh no, The Tempus' songs demonstrate good variety of feel, energy and drive. It certainly aint all same old same old with The Tempus; these guys mix it up and keep it fluid and pretty unpredictable. Mixing acoustic with electric and kerrangin' rock with pseudo-balladic The Tempus show that they've got all the makings of a 'big' band. Just as long as they keep it semi-heavy rock rather than falling into the bottomless abyss of ordinary mundane indie, The Tempus look to have a bright and rewarding future. I like 'Follow You' loads and I like The Tempus muchly - one to watch out for methinks!!
