The Tamborines

Single - What Took You So long

Play 90 second soundbite of 'What Took You So Long' @ 'CD quality'

Indie/pop meets The Byrds was what immediately came to mind when I put The Tamborines' 'What Took You So Long' on my player. Sounds weird eh? Well no not really! The Tamborines have used their obvious folk roots and indie persuasions to bring a quite new sound to the playing field; jangly guitars, droning keys and pulsating rhythms - all topped off with distinctive folksy vocals - and it's really cool.

The retro feel is further held through quite toppy (mucho treble tone) production resulting in a very effective top end vibe. The use of incessant drum and bass work brings on the indie overtones. Together, The Tamborines have managed to come up with a style and sound that's classy and modern, intriguing and very very infectious. Surprisingly enough, the juxtaposition of the jangly folk with the blatant pop groove works exceptionally well - thus, late 60's West Coast America meets 21st century Brit! The end result - excellent!

The trio, consisting Lulu, Veronique and Henrz appear to originate from some where down Brazil way but are now operating out of West London where they must be generating loads of interest with their very distinctive style and sound. Certainly this short work has nicely whetted my appetite!

'What Took You So Long' is followed by the similarly excellent 'The Great Division' - the two totalling just over eight minute - eight minutes of tuneful, catchy originality. Methinks that The Tamborines have found something just far enough removed from the norm to set them apart. Excellent stuff!!
