The Sugarman

CD - Sugarman

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Breakfast Red' @ 'CD quality'

Well, I have to say this album wasn't anything like I expected!! I, wrongly as it worked out, expected a dance album pure and simple. 'Sugarman' by The Sugarman is a beautifully sensitive album of hypnotic grooves and gentle rhythms - electro finery, digital excellence, thoughtful, superbly crafted and nicely original - real chilled stuff and damn good too!!

As I read The Sugarman's press pack I realised that this guy's been around the block a few times and ought to know what he's doin'. Still it came as a shock - and a pleasant one at that!! 'Sugarman' isn't dance music persay; it's groove laden sheek, annoyingly infectious but somehow slightly 'down-beat' electro of the highest order. A sort of connoisseurs edition, maturely composed electro, full of classy samples giving subtle light and shade to rhythmic backdrops. 'Sugarman' really is a sensitive piece of work!

'Sugarman' is a sort of modern-day digital Debussy; at times almost understated but always evocative, descriptive and pretty damn moody - it's a fine album that's difficult to describe in words - it needs to be heard to really appreciate what The Sugarman is doing. The Sugarman paints pictures through music - 'colourful' aural tapestries of the finest quality. 'Sugarman' by The Sugarman borders on modern classical composition - it takes digital music way passed the simple electro dance idiom and into new realms of sensitivity and polished professionalism - 'Sugarman' by The Sugarman is gently persuasive and totally listenable - bloody good stuff!!
