The Shims

Demo

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Red Stop Light' @ 'CD quality'

The Shims are a Corby five-piece indie/alt/rock combo with a great collective 'ear' for a catchy melody and unified ability to create punchy pop/rock songs.

This demo consists of just three tracks; hey, three's a good number and here there's more than enough to be able to get The Shims' bigger picture. Driven by rippin' bass lines, punctuative percussion and jangly but solidly rockin' guitars The Shims contrive to come up with extremely catchy and damn commercial songs. Fronted with great vocals that are by no means one-dimensional, The Shims generate an energy that's impressive as well as contagious. The Shims make beaty pop/rock full of light and shade, very 'now' and pretty fuckin' commercial.

Leaning heavily on the side of the over-used 'indie' form, The Shims try hard to be different and generally their sound is a cut above many of their contemporaries. Maybe not as individualistic as they could be, The Shims nonetheless create a bold, mature sound that at times borders on the anthemic. Here, 'Red Stop Light' finds The Shims in full commercial flow, 'Laugh Out Load' demonstrates their more mature side and 'Time I Don't Have' delivers a massive punch of stadium rock - diversity, depth, viability - it's all there, strength in depth, professionalism, unabated talent that's bustin' to be released into the bigger world.

Faultless execution and well mixed, The Shim's songs are delivered with professionalism and focus. The Shims show in just three tracks that they can be diverse as well as hip; this impressive demo suggests The Shims should have a great future if they can keep coming up with kick-ass songs of this depth and quality. As a demo, this can't really be faulted at all - maybe another couple of tracks would strengthen their cause and offer further encouragement to the often fickle promoters and hard-nosed 'scouts' but generally The Shims have got it just about right. Certainly The Shims show that they're ready to move on up - but, the hard work starts now if they're to really make it work!
