The Reverse

EP - Shutterspeed

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Shutterspeed' @ 'CD quality'

This EP, 'Shutterspeed', is evidently the second of a trio of four track EP's by The Reverse; following on from 'A Clean Incision', 'Shutterspeed' is a magnificently fresh work that showcases The Reverse and their individual take on contemporary indie/rock.

What first struck me as I listened to this superb EP was the refreshing way The Reverse play acoustic and electric guitars off against each other. The acoustic adds a dynamic that many similarly ilked bands too often lack - the electric drives the music as it slickly evolves from atmospheric and evocative to hard-edged mid-rock. The Reverse seem to thrive on music that's continually changing, slowly building and taking on new forms - they do it extremely well and bring a new dimension to the world of indie/rock. You know how bands like Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs both brought a new style and sound to the musical forum, well, The Reverse bring yet another sound to the table for your delectation!

The Reverse compose and play with an element of enigmatic originality and beautifully, often juxtaposed, expressionism. The Reverse play harmonious and discordant off against each other with amazing results; they make the two opposites one entity and leave me unable to quite put the resultant sounds out of my head. The Reverse remind me of U2 plays Morrissey - and that can't be bad! Lyrically mature and dynamically driven, The Reverse make a big 'noise' in a very controlled and expressive manner - at times they are remarkably exquisite at others they are just plain brilliant - nowt at all to dislike, loads to admire and enjoy - super stuff!!

The songs are well written and beautifully handled - The Reverse are going all-out to make themselves sufficiently different from their contemporaries and doing a great job of getting it right! 'Shutterspeed' by The Reverse is beautiful in its form, stunning in its execution, expressive, atmospheric, exciting and nicely rockin'!
