Play 90 second soundbite of 'One Time Bomb' @ 'CD quality'
smart, full of pace and with a few surprises thrown in, it sits with one foot in indie while the other stands squarely in nu-punk.
What makes 'One Time Bomb' stand out from its contemporaries are the well proportioned and generally unexpected 'fills' and the ever-changing time signatures. The attention to detail is also pretty convincing - The Reluctant Heroes seem as though they've got a good handle on dynamics and proportions - they manage to deliver a pretty big sound at times and its all balanced just so!
I don't think that the basic song has that much to offer per se but the way The Reluctant Heroes build and layer the piece makes all the difference! 'Scratches' accompanies 'One Time Bomb'; another punk laced rocker with energy and attitude. A damn good 'B' side that further strengthens the case for The Reluctant Heroes and their catchy wares.
However, 'One Time Bomb' by The Reluctant Heroes, for me, isn't a world-beater - there's nothing that different or that exciting to write home about. Workmanlike, yes. But outstanding,no. Reluctant Heroes fans will probably go wild about this single but Reluctant Heroes virgins might just think it a little uninspiring and samey. I just don't see 'One Time Bomb exploding into the charts - perhaps more of a damp squib that'll have its moment and fade away!! Shame really, cuz the boys seem to have given it every chance but maybe just miss the mark on originality!
