The Red Bean Team

The Red Bean EP

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Little Lie' @ 'CD quality'

The Red Bean Team don't give very much away in their press pack but I quote, "The 'Red Bean Team' came into existence with the primary aim of becoming a platform for a select group of musicians...". 'The Red Bean EP' is their debut release and is a charmingly simplistic work that's refreshing for several reasons; its purity and genuine feel, its uncluttered but emotional vibe and its faultless precision.

'The Red Bean EP' almost takes things back to basics, a sort of modern day Mike Oldfield thing - taking a theme and working around it to see what happens. And, what actually does happen is that 'The Red Bean EP' works extremely well. It's not only a very relaxing and pleasing piece of work but it's also something a bit different in a time when so many 'bands' seem to want to thrash out banal chunes by way of massed instruments and multiple over-dubs. 'The Red Bean EP' is not anything like that - it's so chilled that it's almost hypnotic - a really tasty work that could be used to relax to, to work to, or, turn it up, let go and just run with it!

I have to admit that when I read the (sparse) press pack I was a little dubious about this one; I thought it would be a very self-indulgent musical outing without appeal. After just one play, all that changed - the clever sods of Red Bean Team hooked me and reeled me in.

'The Red Bean EP' is a glorious work of contemporary light rock and the Red Bean Team have been totally unselfish here - they allow the listener to join in with their indulgence - but once you're in, it's hard to get out. Really crackin'!
