The Puppini Sisters

Single - Wuthering Heights

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Wuthering Heights' @ 'CD quality'

Much publicised of late The Puppini Sisters have taken a modern classic in Kate Bush's 'Wuthering Heights', Puppini-fied it and are now releasing it as their new single. Such a great, easily identifiable song must have been extremely difficult to adapt to their slinky 40s stylee; but they did it and they've turned it on its head and managed to get the fit just right.

Beauty Shop Trio rather than Barber Shop Quartet, The Puppini Sisters have taken the whole 40's wartime thing that brought such heart and cheer to battle-torn Europe and America and made it their contemporary own. The Andrews Sisters were probably the biggest exponents of the art back then. The Puppini Sisters aim to once more lighten the mood with their take on the graceful and swanky genre that others have tried before. When I read that they were going for 'Wuthering Heights' my first reaction was something like "'...no way Jose!". But, big but, they've really done a great job with this difficult song; where others have simply tried to out-Bush Bush, The Puppini Sisters have totally remade and remodelled this fantastic song and come up trumps.

Now, this may not be your thing. So what! Open your ears and your heart and absorb the slickness of this work. Three great voices singing as one harmonised instrument. Yes, it's slick. Yes, it's full of elegance and grace. And yes, it's actually very cool. That's the beauty of a great song; it should be adaptable - most have never even tried to adapt, preferring instead to copy. The Puppini Sisters really have turned on the style and done the biz'!
