The Pocket Gods

CD - Hallucinations In The Audiotorium

Play 90 second soundbite of 'In Patagonia' @ 'CD quality'

Indie/Psychedelic/Alternative outfit The Pocket Gods surely must be the most prolific, hard working musical act ever!! 'Hallucinations In The Audiotorium' is their latest album release - containing fifteen well crafted and slightly zany songs, it's quite typical of the Pocket Gods' wonderfully wacky but massively productive world.

This is a bit like Blur do country-rock mixed with early 60's pop-rock experimentation; a sort of laid back, lo-fi outing that's still searching for an identity. The Pocket Gods aren't afraid to push at boundaries or experiment with instrumentation and/or genre and 'Hallucinations In The Audiotorium' is a Pandora's Box of the unexpected, the interesting and the innovative.

As they've gone through their many phases and experimented with their massively wide, all-encompassing repertoire, The Pocket Gods seem to have slowly but surely settled on the vaguely commercial pop-rock/nu-country stylee as demonstrated here. Acceptance and success was slow to come but when it did so The Pocket Gods seemed to be able to better focus their talents on a proper 'end product'. 'Hallucinations In The Audiotorium' is certainly more 'grounded' and centred than many of their earlier releases and hence I have a good feeling about this album. Certainly, The Pocket Gods deserve recognition if only for their tenacity and temerity for 'sticking at it' regardless of current trends and/or fickle commercial requirements. The Pocket Gods have already shown great spirit and perseverance and I'm sure they'll continue to do battle with the musical 'establishment' for many years to come yet. When most bands would simply give up and go back into hibernation, The Pocket Gods will never say 'die' - they're here for the long haul - and, good luck to 'em!!

'Hallucinations In The Audiotorium' by The Pocket Gods is a crackin' piece of work in the overall scheme of things - gloriously lo-fi and wonderfully home-grown it's proper 'peoples' music - full of heart, full of belief and full of enjoyable interest.
