The Pocket Gods

CD - The Green Man

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Living On A Leyline' @ 'CD quality'

'The Green Man' brings on more of the same mind blowin', atmospheric and trance inducing stuff from this extraordinary 'outfit'. This really does take me back to the very early Hawkwind days; the screeching synths, the screaming guitars, the incessant rhythms and the disturbing, somewhat loose but effective, chant-like vocal performances. Excellent for me!! Maybe not for everyone, unless you're open to persuasion through a barrage of mind altering, heady musical mayhem.

Revolving mainly around the 'affected' mind and musical innovation of self confessed eccentric Mark C Lee (vocals, guitars, keys & drums) and 'the angelic' (and presumably equally eccentric) Annelise Moeke (drums & keys), The Pocket Gods line-up on 'The Green Man' also features the transient forces of one similarly zany Bert D'Hooge (guitars, keys & drums) and Dan (ether). Ok, so that's the line-up sorted then - at least for now! Together these four create a positive minefield of trippy vibes that carry the (willing) listener through ion-storm territory on a journey to someplace else. Just where that place is I'm really not sure - and I think that's the point!

Once again The Pocket Gods have reached out to me, stolen my reality and taken me to a place no one else will go - others may go to their own little place but they won't be going to mine - such is the effect of the music of The Pocket Gods. It's like substance abuse where each will experience their own dreams and/or nightmares depending on their ability to let go of reality and drift into the unknown.

The Pocket Gods excite me - they warm me and they take me to places that perhaps I shouldn't go and 'The Green Man' is just another journey into the past, the present and the future all at once. Yes, this is for me!! No, it's certainly not for everyone! But, if you're looking to get away from the dross and certainty of today's often banal music scene then I strongly suggest that you try The Pocket Gods - but take care, be sure to keep an open mind and then let The Pocket Gods fill up the space.
