The Pocket Gods

CD - Lo-Fi Sci-Fi

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Praise The Lard' @ 'CD quality'

More insane pop-rock from the prolific The Pocket Gods. As always, tongue-in-cheek but seriously creative, 'Lo-Fi Sci-Fi' is The Pocket Gods 'n'th work in 'n'years - see, I've lost count - do these 'guys' ever sleep? Do The Pocket Gods never stop to take breath? Prolific fails to describe The pocket Gods musical output.

'Lo-Fi Sci-Fi' is a crackin' album; fun, clever and adventurous all at the same time. The Pocket Gods have come a long way since I first heard them; instrumentally The Gods have continued to improve and 'Lo-fi Sci-Fi' is recorded proof that The Gods have journeyed far and wide musically and learned much on those far-flung genre travels. Their writing has become more 'serious' insofar as they now appear more focussed on the main job in hand; whereas they used to be a bit sketchy and scratchy they now seem more able to stay within bounds for any given 'project'. Hey, 'project' - that's a cool term for a Pocket Gods release - 'project', a new venture, another trip into Pocket Gods surrealism, another voyage of musical discovery. I like that, 'Lo-fi Sci-Fi', the latest Pocket Gods 'project' is as silly as it is innovative - The Gods are once again totally true to form here; plenty of 'plays on words' plenty of clever language cross-overs set to good rockin' rhythms and pop-tastic melodies. Anyway, I've always thought that The Pocket Gods might be from another planet so why not record an intergalactic album to ram the point home!!

Ok, 'Lo-Fi Sci-Fi' by The Pocket Gods is yet another high intensity, scratchy, production-challenged album. A work of impressive proportions and self-deprecating quality - typical from conception to completion, 'Lo-Fi Sci-Fi' is exactly what it set out to be; a semi-serious bit of musical fun that gives just as much back to the listener as he/she is prepared to put in! Enjoy it for what it is and get off on it or leave well alone and let someone else take the challenge. The Pocket Gods rule scratchy-fi land - they're the Kings of raw-edged prog rock, the Lords of spaced-out rock-impro, the bringers of joy, the perpetrators of cross-genre bastardisation - a bunch of 'fools' (of the jester variety!) living in a musical fools' Paradise. Good on 'em too - 'Lo-Fi Sci-Fi' by The Pocket Gods is another enjoyable stop-off at PG-Land.
