Play 90 second soundbite of 'Hey, Hey,Hey' @ 'CD quality'
'Hey, Hey, Hey' opens with punk-edged angular guitar and beautiful rolling toms then, vocally, there's a somewhat spiky, staccato leaning. 'Hey, Hey, Hey' is up-tempo and rammed with pop sensibility but still aims itself squarely at dance-floor tomfoolery. The Pistolas new wave approach utilises the pop and punk adrenalin which is glued to an underlying veneer of electro undercurrents - hence, The Pistolas cover all bases; night club freak-outs, pub/club melees and party scenarios.
Quite whether The Pistolas' new wave dance stylee will work well enough to reach 'chart' status I'm not really sure but, in the right place (which remember is practically anywhere!!) The Pistolas' 'Hey, Hey, Hey' will kick up quite a storm. As if to strengthen their new wave cause even further, 'b' side, 'The Wrong Stuff' is more of the same bubbly, infectious electro-punk with attitude lightly ironed over with synth infused grooves. The Pistolas use a deal of repetition and pace within their percussive and rhythmic music which lends itself superbly to booze-altered, gyrational evenings under a mirror balls and laser lights whilst still appealing to the mosh-pit fraternity.
Will 'Hey, Hey, Hey' by The Pistolas manage to become a 'classic'? Methinks it'll do very well with the 'jocks' but maybe struggle to become a timeless party work.
