Play 90 second soundbite of 'Cloud Nine' @ 'CD quality'
With its big dynamic feel and great singalongability, 'A Reconstructed View' has every chance of becoming a leading light in the fickle world of pop commerciality.
Not as silky and sentimental as Snow Patrol, with less brogue than The Waterboys and less intricate than U2, The Perfect Skins stake their claim as one of Ireland's front-runners with this impressive work. Their individual sound proves that you don't have to plagiarise or imitate to achieve recognition and success; The Perfect Skins rely on their own 'variations' on the indie theme to create their signature sound and it works pretty damn well!!
'A Reconstructed View' offers you twelve well crafted, commercially biased songs that've been mixed and produced with loving care and attention to detail to bring out The Perfect Skins' natural attributes and subtle nuances. There's a subtle inherent Irish-ness to many of the songs but the lilting theme isn't over-done or abused. The Perfect Skins use guitars to not only punctuate the lyric but also to strengthen its appeal. The rhythm section is nicely solid and holds the line beautifully which allows the 'front-men' plenty of room to express themselves. The songs may not always be the most breathtaking, statement-making works you'll come across but The Perfect Skins seem to know how to write a catchy song and make the most of their creative literacy. The sound is pretty big and dynamic, at times anthemic, which compensates somewhat for the slightly uninspiring lyrical content - when everything comes together, and it generally does, The Perfect Skins get over the 'line' with room to manoeuvre and offering tight, punchy and very likeable output.
'A Reconstructed View' by The Perfect Skins is a worthy contender in the far-reaching and often over-stretched indie scheme of things. I can sense the belief in these guys and I can hear their potential; quite whether The Perfect Skins have that extra something that'll move them on up I'm not absolutely sure but, on the evidence here, I'd say there's every chance that The Perfect Skins are pretty close to getting it right. Ok, the songs aint always as strong lyrically as they could be but compositionally it's all pretty impressive and the guys sure can play.
The Perfect Skins have done a pretty good job here; I like the production and I like what they are striving to achieve. One of the hardest parts of creating modern pop-rock/indie music is in finding those all-important words to lay down the music to; The Perfect Skins are pretty much there or there abouts and I think they'll find that little extra that'll make the big difference. So, 'A Reconstructed View' by The Perfect Skins is a crackin' good album but maybe not truly brilliant. The Perfect Skins show massive potential though and they might prove to be one to watch out for!
