Play 90 second soundbite of 'Small Towns' @ 'CD quality'
Like REM maybe and with an occasional hint of the low, lazy drawl style of Lou Reed and the attack of The Velvet Underground, The Pedal Jets are very much an individual entity with their own irresistible sound and delivery; these guys from America certainly know how to pen great 'chunes' and then perform them with maximum impact, with confidence, with vibrancy and with a sense of commercial vision. Not exactly new on the scene (and it shows through their apparent unity and precision!), The Pedal Jets are a mature and well gigged outfit and their experience and worldly-wise knowledge of the 'industry' comes out in their pretty majestic sounding delivery - they ooze confidence, they drip quality and they secrete professionalism.
'Pedal Jets' is a thirteen track outing that manages to bring commerciality to rock without loosing that grounded feel that's so important. Quite obviously American-esque but with a globally rounded sound that only comes from experience and ability, The Pedal Jets have contrived to conceive, engineer and deliver a brilliant album here. 'Pedal Jets' is a real 'grower'; hear it once and it pulls you back to once again press 'play'. Hear it again and you realise just how compelling this work is. 'Pedal Jets' sits astride rock and pop with a well conceived and beautifully balanced set of finely crafted songs. The Pedal Jets originally released this album in 1989 and after much ado, and several years of change and debate they chose to re-visit the work, remix, re-master and re-release 'Pedal Jets'. I, for one, am glad they decided to stick it out and give it another go coz 'Pedal Jets' feels absolutely right just now; a t'riffic album for 'now' - without a doubt!
'Pedal Jets' by The Pedal Jets is a classy and well executed album of rockin' powerpop, very commercial, very 'now', very tomorrow! Great work and a joy to behold - excellent!
