The website reads "The Murmur are a five piece band who combine soaking jangly guitars with sun drenched west coast harmonies. Beat up troubadour songs with soaring melodies and captivating lyrics that enchant the listener." There aint a great deal to say after that really. That's exactly what The Murmur do. That's it in a few simple words.

However, that's not what I do. I make it up as I go along. That's quite difficult here actually 'cause I find myself steamin' off into a multitude of comparisons, numerous superlatives and other words most worshipful. Anyway, The Murmur, superb. And, what an album 'Vietnam Morning' is. Absolutely crackin'! Absorbing. Sophisticated. Simply superb. Just about the only things not mentioned in the quote at the outset is their penchant for the Dylanesque. Their country Byrds vibe. Their infectious jaunty stylee that sounds so fresh and so easy. Oh, and then there's their polish. Then, I suppose I have to mention, their infectiousness. Then there's gotta be ........blah, blah, etc..

I really do have to say that I found 'Vietnam Morning' a pure delight. I know some may say that this 'country' thing has had its day. But, those knockers surely haven't experienced The Murmur yet. How could anyone possibly say anything even slightly negative about what's goin' on here?

As yet I haven't had the pleasure of seeing The Murmur play live. I'll certainly be looking out for them after hearing this very, very impressive album. They sound like they've been together forever. They write and perform with total togetherness. They've got something very special here. The whole thing is spot-on; it's superbly crafted and performed, it's beautifully packaged, it's brilliantly recorded and with eleven magnificent tracks it's gotta be on of the best releases of 2005. Does anyone get the slightest impression that I quite like this?

If this is typical of what The Murmur do and are going to continue to do then surely there won't just be a murmur - there'll be an absolute outcry - I just hope they hold it all together and bang out more of this amazing stuff. 'Vietnam Morning' is a wondrous, beautiful thing.

If any of The Murmur team read this I'd be more than a little interested in hearing anything else by this outrageously fine band. PLEASE!!
