The Lucky Face is London singer/songwriter Tim Mullineaux - 'Underneath The City Lights' is the new single to be released on i-tunes and other on-line digital 'stores'. Most unusual! Yep, this wasn't anything like I expected - I don't actually know what I expected but it sure wasn't this!!

'Underneath The City Lights' is kinda swing, kinda pop, kinda unusual. It's a jaunty little softy that rattles beautifully along with loads of singalongability and mucho feelgood factor. It's sort of commercial in a John Sebastian sort of way - you know that summery, light, floaty sort of thing that gets annoyingly under yer skin and you find yourself singing or whistling it but hope no-one hears you. Now, Mr.Mullineaux is quite obviously a damn fine songwriter; he has a nicely weird sense of humour as shown on the 'B' side, 'Ian's Got A Complex' and he seems to know what it's all about. I can see this guy raising the acoustic tent roof at any number of festivals. I can also see him reaching out to his audience in the more intimate venues. But I can't really see him hitting the big time with this little ditty. There's absolutely nothing wrong with 'Underneath The City Lights' - it's a fine piece of music-art and it's got heart and soul. But, I'm not sure the general public are ready for The Lucky Face on the bigger scale just yet!

'Underneath The City Lights' by The Lucky Face is as British as the day is long - it could have been penned by Ray Davies and recorded by The Kinks. It could be from just about any musical era, such is its timeless feel. It could actually be a surprise package and I may have got it wrong. But, 'Underneath The City Lights' by The Lucky Face sounds more like a cult work that'll be a minor success but it'll probably have decent longevity.

As a package, 'Underneath The City Lights' and 'Ian's Got A Complex' by The Lucky Face is an annoyingly catchy work - one of those that I just know I'll be whistling tomorrow morning! And, perhaps that's where Mr.Mullineaux has been very canny - he's given us something that you don't have to think about, something not too serious, something to tease us. 'Underneath The City Lights' by The Lucky Face is already doin' my 'ead in!! The bloody thing is already drilling itself into my memory banks and I just know it's gonna keep repeating on me like a rancid pickled onion - clever and very charming stuff from this The Lucky Face. I certainly wish him luck with this single and hope he can manage to get it out there to make his mark.
