Play 90 second soundbite of 'Suburbia' @ 'CD quality'
By far the tastiest track here is the opener, 'Suburbia', which rocks along nicely with a punchy, driving bass line and effectively 'jangly' guitar. With plenty of hooks it quickly starts to get nicely under your skin. 'I Don't Feel The Love' and 'Alligator Water' are both strong works but suffer somewhat from the sterile studio atmosphere; both, I'm sure, will work better when blasted out to a lively and responsive audience. There's plenty to get into with these three tracks, the guys mix it up a bit to show their range and depth. Their press info quotes "The Knowing are 'tight but loose' if you know what I mean" - exactly, just about sums them up! All-in-all, The Knowing show promise. I still think they'd benefit from a quality studio recording but what they've done here they've done well.
The Knowing's demo is very much a case of what you hear is what you're gonna get. It's real, no frills, raw and workmanlike but above all, it's totally honest. The Knowing give a good account of themselves with a risky 'live' recording - what this work lacks in production it makes up for with its genuine, warts 'n' all, this is The Knowing, approach. Brave maybe, but I think The Knowing just about pull it off.
