Play 90 second soundbite of 'Beautiful Souls' @ 'CD quality'
My one and only criticism is that 'The Kindness Kind' is pretty short for a full-blown album; with seven tracks timing out at just short of twenty-six minutes it just aint enough!! But, that's twenty-six minutes of top quality modern rock music, no wasters, no fillers, just the mutt's nuts from start to finish!!
Boldly but cleverly migrating away from the indie norm, The Kindness Kind have taken the genre to new places with their 'smart' take on what is becoming an over-used form. By injecting just a small, well balanced proportion of modern utility keyboards and computer generated fills, The Kindness Kind have birthed a nicely pleasing bastardisation of the popularised style. Incorporating just a hint of nu-jazz syncopation with their intelligent rock The Kindness Kind offer a compelling and extremely commercial new sound.
This five-piece 'combo' contrive to make 'indie' something that's adventurous, refreshing and innovative. Featuring the beautifully enticing vocals of Alessandra Rose, The Kindness Kind already have their 'starter for ten'! Rose's voice has a wonderful catch in the delivery; there's something quite sexy about Rose's whole vocal presence that's hard to describe but difficult to ignore. Behind those stunning vocals Charles Larson, Nicolas Danielson, Brian Todd and Kevin Bray lay down some awesome work between them; at once simplistic yet complex rhythms punctuate as well as drive the 'machine' as guitars and 'keys' (and things!) decorate and embellish. The resultant sound is vibrant and intoxicating and is superbly suited to Rose's excellent, pretty sensual outpourings.
'The Kindness Kind' is this outfit's second full-blown album and it definitely has a sound of 'success' about it! The Kindness Kind have a pretty unique sound that pushes the envelope whilst retaining an element of commercial safety. Play it loud coz this baby's got balls and really opens up with the 'cones' stressed to their limits. And, on first hearing it's obvious that 'The Kindness Kind' has something special to offer; repeat plays let the listener further in and 'The Kindness Kind really starts to become irritatingly compelling. 'The Kindness Kind' is an exceptional piece of work - it gives the term 'indie' new hope and refreshes and invigorates a form that's started to become a little tired and over-used. The Kindness Kind make very sweet music for now and the future - amazingly modern without once losing control of the plot, The Kindness Kind lift the bar and raise the indie ante - beautiful and nothing short of brilliant!!
