The Keyz

EP - Superstar Gazer

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Monkeyfish' @ 'CD quality'

What I instantly liked about The Keyz, when I put this tasty little EP on, was the whole feeling of positivity and joy that seems to radiate from the heart of their songs. 'Superstar Gazer' is a bright infectious four tracker that's as good as anything else currently out there.

The Keyz make music that sounds friendly as well as cool, they make music that's easy to take, easy on the ear. Too many bands over-complicate, over-produce or totally, over-kill their songs in an attempt to be different and stand out. Not The Keyz though - although their music is not actually that simple it comes across as being vibrant and enjoyable without too much fuss - nothing here's is jarring to the senses, nothing too angular, nothing testing. The Keyz seem to have found a musical formula that sits well with the individuals within the band as well as with the end listener. The Keyz music is punchy and memorable, dynamic and catchy.

Included here we have, 'Monkeyfish', 'Jack', 'Them & Me' and 'Superstar Gazer' - great muisc, beautifully performed, well mixed and professionally produced. Pretty faultless stuff really and certainly music that you could listen to time after time without getting tired - in fact, as you re-visit, so you find more within, more subtle nuance, more little fills and frills. Bloody great stuff!!

My only criticism of this sensational EP is its title; 'Superstar Gazer' sounds a little 'old hat' a bit retro. There's nothing at all old hat or retro about The Keyz though, this is a band with a recipe for success - educated indie, mature pop, sophisticated rock - bloody great, I wish them luck!!
