CD - Cut Your Key

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Geordie Can't Swim' @ 'CD quality'

Mixing new with old, tried and tested with innovative and futuristic whilst genre hopping along the way, The Junipers have contrived to come up with a magical style and sound for now and the future. Massively melodic, beautifully 'orchestrated' modern pop with a twist and a kick! With soft, almost choral, vocals dressed with modern instrumental sounds and extemporary arrangements, 'Cut Your Key' offers something just a little different - no nightmares after listening to this, nothing but sweet dreams born of equally sweet refrains, charming soundscapes and breathtaking aural stimulation.

'Cut Your Key' is the remarkably intelligent album from The Junipers; sitting somewhere within the same pigeonhole as the great Mercury Rev, The Junipers have a big bold and fresh sound that's instantly recognisable, oh so gentle on the senses and irritatingly unputdownable. The Junipers, the nucleus of which is Joe Wiltshire and Marc Johnston, make a joyous 'noise' that's both left of centre but also pretty fuckin' commercial; theirs is almost psychedelic folk although they describe it themselves as 'indie/psychedelic/pop' which is close enough for me! The Junipers manage to bring hints of nu-country and nu-folk to the popular marketplace; they do it with t'riffic attention to detail, wonderfully industrious foresight and almost complete disregard of current musical convention - The Junipers have got something very special here; their music is extremely radio-friendly, timeless and tireless and given some good promotion they should be appearing very soon on a 'station' near you!

The Junipers' wonderfully 'flowery' take on contemporary music is as bold as it is slick, as unconventional as it is happenstance and as enjoyable as it is convincing. The guys (with some help from a few friends) has concocted a richly descriptive musical tapestry that errs towards nursery-rhyme yet, brilliantly, it sits well within modernistic pop/rock culture. The songs are masterfully written, stunningly executed and superbly produced - nothing to dislike, nothing to fault and absolutely nothing to doubt. This is quality pop/rock with a difference; edgy yet smooth, evocative yet simplistic, experimental yet somehow remaining extremely user-friendly. A clever piece of work that's vibrant and moody and manages to bring together elements of so many popular genre that it's difficult to hang yer hat on as to where its going. Final destination unknown then but certainly the ride is gonna prove interesting for this crackin' band on the back of this exceptional album. 'Cut Your Key' by The Junipers is absolutely splendid stuff - something for everyone, music for the masses, bloody marvellous!!
