Play 90 second soundbite of 'Boom Boom Clap' @ 'CD quality'
The Ironweed Project is the brainchild of Aniff Akinola and what he does here is wonderfully original and could actually become a great club favourite; I can just see all those sweaty, dancin' arses bumpin' 'n' grindin' and mucho hip gyrational stuffage goin' on to the deep and dirty 'Boom Boom Clap'. There's certainly something really contagious and more than a tad likeable here - and, if you give it loads of db's, it becomes even more compelling - so let it rip bro'!!
Akinola has taken the groanin', moanin blues ethos of standard blues and brought the lyrics right up to date with hip hop, 'pimp my ride'-esque references to 'pumpin' bass' through '20 inch speakers in the back', 'blacked-out windows' and 'double exhausts' - certainly made me smile! 'Boom Boom Clap' reminds me a little of the deep, grinding, funky soul once laid down by Cameo - think back and hear those deep, throaty vocals set against pulsating back-beats - well this is a bit like that but with a touch of modernity about it.
The Ironweed Project aka Aniff Akinola should be congratulated for having the guts and also the ingenuity to come up with this in the first place. It don't matter if the blues is your thing, it don't matter if you like hip hop - the end product here is sure to get you off your chair, get yer feet-a-tappin' and yer butt-a-boppin' - it's really well done and as infectious as hell!!
