The Goodness

EP - The Shape Of Things To Come

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Rights/Wrongs' @ 'CD quality'

Well, this one came as a bit of a surprise! Initially I have to admit to thinking that The Goodness might be just another in the very long line of common or garden indie rock bands - you know the kinda thing, same old, same old. However, it turns out that The Goodness are not at all ordinary in fact, they're actually a bit special!! And, 'The Shape of Things To Come' might just prove to be a prophetic title for The Goodness cuz if this is typical, which I guess it is, then things are looking in good shape for the rather splendid The Goodness.

'The Shape Of Things To Come' is an excellent five track EP that says much about this extremely impressive, Bristol based outfit; the songs have a kinda youthful vibrancy and boyish vigour and yet they're actually very maturely written and beautifully performed. The Goodness are a well blessed five-piece and they lay down some really excellent stuff here. But, the big surprise was in the vocals department; think Embrace, think Elbow, think The Goodness. This front man has a great full-bodied vocal quality that allows The Goodness the distinction of sounding different. Add to that the fact that The Goodness come across as well organised and pretty damn commercial and you've got yourself a band with fantastic potential. The songs given here are superbly written and stunningly crafted; there's a great multi-layered feel here that suggests a lot of thought has gone into the mixing and production stages - peel back one layer and you'll find another just as cool and equally well handled! And, the end result is superb!!

The Goodness sound like a band on a mission and their obvious focus is paying dividends cuz The Goodness are clearly a cut above most of their contemporaries. So, The Goodness write great songs, they certainly how to play and they seem to have a pretty strong handle on what's required to make a difference. The Goodness have impressed me big time with just five excellent tracks. If The Goodness can maintain this standard and keep coming up with songs of this quality surely the future is looking bright. I have to say, there's something very special about The Goodness - it's hard to know what it actually is that makes them so good but they're definitely doing things sufficiently well to make them stand out from the crowd. Impressive stuff this from The Goodness - 'The Shape Of Things To Come' is a quite exceptional EP and The Goodness are one hell of a good band. Watch these - methinks that The Goodness have all the right attributes to make it in a very big way. Excellent!!
