Play 90 second soundbite of 'Islands' @ 'CD quality'
'Islands' has a touch of Garbage about it; vocalist Sara Sanchez belts out the lyrics with controlled ebullience and slick precision not unlike Shirley Manson. The song is somewhat genre-blurring; certainly rock oriented but with a loosely avant-jazz undercurrent and pretty obvious pop leanings - all-in-all, The Favours are covering all bases and opening things up to all-comers. And, it certainly works well.
With 'Islands', The Favours are providing the discerning pop music lover with something that's up-front, danceable, inherently powerful and gender-friendly. Yep, 'Islands' should appeal to almost anyone with an ear for a good 'chune' and a will to be entertained.
'Islands' has a pretty big, power-house feel to it - engineered and produced with a clarity and energy that's reminiscent of the Scissor Sisters work, The Favours and their 'team' have done a bloody good job here. Look out for 'Islands' by The Favour - I can just see it being a late summer hit. And, I can't help but feel that there's more to come yet from The Favours - a name to watch out for methinks!!
