describing themselves as a 'premier dance and party band' makes this outfit sound amateurish and low profile when they are actually far from being that!! In fact, the only thing The Fabulous Horndogs need is re-assurance that what they do is worthy and justified!
Delivering 'hot rhythm and blues with a New Orleans Flavour' (at least that's accurate!), The Fabulous Horndogs are a sensational boogie-style blues band! Utilising a beautiful mix of horns, keyboards and guitars, The Fabulous Horndogs cruise their way through ten wondrous blues tracks on 'Dog Tracks'. Stunning musicianship topped off with a great mix and production and 'Dog Tracks' is up there with just about any other, similarly ilked offering.
Three members of the six-piece share vocal duties here; silky smooth, emotional and superbly easy on the ear, The Fabulous Horndogs absolutely nail it! Ok, I agree, The Fabulous Horndogs would grace any party or celebration, anywhere but, if that's not under-selling yourself then I don't know what is - this outfit's right up there!! I think perhaps the fact that The Fabulous Horndogs seem to be a blues 'covers' band might have clouded their judgement - hey guys, nowt wrong with that especially if you know what you're doing and dedicate yourselves to the blues cause. You guys clearly have what it takes and 'Dog Tracks' is a mighty fine album!!
Maybe, just maybe, The Fabulous Horndogs, being of the slightly older 'generation' feel they have to 'own up' and tell it like it is. But, they should just let their music tell the story; 'Dog Tracks' is every bit as good and as worthy as anything out there - ok so they're re-workings of 'standard' blues songs, so bloody what!! The Fabulous Horndogs are quite obviously mighty fine musicians and deserve credit not lambasting for their honesty! 'Dog Tracks', by any standard, is the real deal! The band have selected some stunning tracks to 'cover' here, some pretty obvious but some pretty inspired and it all comes together superbly as a very pleasurable and extremely enjoyable album!
'Dog Tracks' by The Fabulous Horndogs is a wonderfully uplifting blues album - the band play with great spirit and positivity - this aint a case of cut-yer-throat blues, this is vibrant and energetic blues delivered with real heart and soul. 'Dog Tracks' gets the job done in fine style and carries with it a real feelgood factor - perhaps that sounds a little 'backward' coz the blues is the blues man - but, hey, not all blues is down-trodden and dirty and certainly 'Dog Tracks' picks up on the more up-lifting side of the genre and delivers the goods with that certain ebullience that is contagious. 'Dog Tracks' is a mighty fine album of blues standards from the excellent Fabulous Horndogs - and as good as it gets!!
