Play 90 second soundbite of 'Save Yourself' @ 'CD quality'
Seemingly Stockley went down this acoustic road shortly after the break up of his band - The Evertide Project started out then as no more than a project, a way to channel his creativity and keep it all together. Well, I just hope the name of the band stays the same but the 'project' becomes a permanence. I really like what Stockley and friends have to offer - and believe me when I say that I know I won't be on my own there!!
The Evertide Project offering here is unfortunately all too little; just four wonderfully concise and beautifully executed tracks. But, in just over sixteen minutes, The Evertide Project have indelibly stamped their mark on me - I want, no need, more of the same. So, what's this all about then? Well starting at the beginning Stockley's songwriting is quite stunning; he's mature, poetic, descriptive and full of well proportioned sentiment. Ok, so next we have the instrumental Stockley - his use of acoustic guitar is breathtaking; never over-done, always empathetic to the lyrics and emotion of the song and with just such a perfectly weighted and well executed delivery. Onward we go - vocally Stockley's also blessed with a crackin' voice that he certainly understands and knows how to use; at times he reminds me of Crowded House, at others, CSN&Y and at others Simon & Garfunkel - so, not bad eh!! To finish it all off we have to mention Graham and Shaw - quite obviously two like-minded individuals who are in complete control of their own vocal chords, are superbly suited to Stockley's whole musical ethos and really give their all to Stockley's magical wares. The Evertide Project is a bit special - I hope Mr Stockley realises just what he has here and carries on with this sensational 'project'.
The Evertide Project is something special to behold - just about the best of everything here - a fantastic demo work indicating a massive talent that's bursting at the seams to get out to the public. More of the same please Mr Stockley - the world awaits you - with a bit of good fortune and being in the right place at the right time, The Evertide Project has the potential to be a world beater - bloody marvellous that's what this is!!
