Play 90 second soundbite of 'Before The Bench' @ 'CD quality'
'Before The Bench' / ' Hippy Crack', as you'd expect from such a duo, is pretty bare bones stuff but, The Deodates get the job done with obvious passion and adrenalin fuelled focus. Both pieces rock with massive power and rough edged drive. Hooks galore, punchy rhythms and a distinct 'you can all join in' attitude give The Deodates a down-homely feel as they blast out their musical wares with unabashed realism and unashamed punkability.
Think white Strips meets The Clash and you're getting on the right lines - hard-hitting, bordering on musical arrogance but fuelled by a realism and genuine passion for street-wise rock'n'roll for the twenty-first century. Dirty, bare-faced and energy sapping, The Deodates ram home both tracks and leave you slightly drained, dishevelled and dangerously disoriented!
Although there's nothing particularly new about either of the songs here, there's an urgency and commitment about the way The Deodates attack their songs that will re-awaken the punkish spirit in many a rebellious rock'n'roller.
