The Code

EP - Back Of The Room

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Back Of The Room' @ 'CD quality'

Three chunky tracks here from North London's The Code. 'Back Of The Room' is a rockin', melodic trip into indie/pop with just a hint of nu-punk attitude.

Generally pretty up-tempo, 'Back Of The Room' shows The Code to be in a similar mould to Green Day; well, at least there's the same pop sensibility and drive. And similarly, the delivery is attitudinal rather than aggressive but unashamedly their attack is from the 'home front' rather than being pseudo-American. The Code make good driving 'chunes'; great for head-banging down the fast lane (not that I condone such un-safe behaviour!). Their chunes is definitely not chill-out chunes; you need to be doing something whilst listening to The Code, something that you can bounce around and get yer rocks off with!

My one worry is that The Code are just a bit too much like so many other bands at the moment; there's not a lot different here. Oh, it's all good - but maybe just too ordinary overall. Sure, The Code as a unit, are bloody good at what they do. They're sorted as a band but, I feel they really do need to find a definite 'hook' that's entirely their own - something that's 100% The Code!

So, I'm impressed with The Code but not totally in awe of! 'Back Of The Room' is good but just not different enough to make me go 'Wow!' The potential is there, the market place could be kind to The Code if The Code could come up with something with a real 'wow factor'.
