The Cess Allan Band

EP - History Books

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Are You Going To Come Back To The Old House?' @ 'CD quality'

The Cess Allan Band is quite simply Nick Read (and a few friends in the 'live' scenario it would seem) and 'History Books' is a fantastic little tempter for his 'act'! With a quite simplistic 'boy-next-door' approach Read delivers a quite magical set of beautifully conceived and superbly crafted songs that make up a massively compelling and quite scintillating EP.

Typically and all-day-long British, The Cess Allan Band dole out wonderfully vibrant, acoustic biased pop-rock. You want different, you've got different with Read's somewhat quirky but fascinating music! Tantalising and teasing, 'History Books' is a splendid six track EP that demonstrates musical originality and impressive professionalism; mixing the somewhat obscure with the openly obvious, Read manages to get a perfect mix of great musicianship with slightly leftfield charm as he zips through this excellent EP that's got a gravitational pull to it as strong as the moon has to earth. Hear this just once and you'll be fascinated if not totally hooked on Read's infectious songs. Very clever stuff and beautifully executed it has to be said.

The Cess Allan Band's wonderfully varied music is at times busy and at others unplugged and totally stripped bare. But, whatever the mood, whatever the vibe, Read hold the listener's attention with his captivating take on the modern form. Quite clearly a very accomplished musical all-rounder, Read has what seems to be a natural ability to entertain and, let me tell you, once you're bitten by the Read bug you'll be instantly infected and ready to pass on the good word. The Cess Allan Band demonstrates all that is so bloody great about British 'popular' music; Read isn't at all self-indulgent or even slightly pretentious and his wonderfully edgy music is completely open and accessible to just about anyone - all you have to do is sit and listen and you'll start to feel, not just the great vibe but, part of The Cess Allan Band's world. This is easy yet fulfilling music, beautifully and lovingly put together to demonstrate the great wealth of talent that is The Cess Allan Band. Although this EP is at times perhaps a little under produced with just a tad of distortion to some of the vocals, that somewhat lo-fi finish doesn't actually detract from what is a bloody great work - it's honest and it's real!

'History Books' by The Cess Allan Band is pretty-much the mutt's nuts, sitting languishing in no particular musical pigeon-hole this is what modern music-making is all about - variety, quality, individualistism - excellent stuff - and I love it!!
